Commentators on Christopher Hitchens on Mother Teresa

By now many of you have probably read or at least heard of Christopher Hitchen's deplorably critical essay on Mother Teresa in last week's issue of Newsweek (also available online here). All in all it is disturbing not in what it reveals about the celebrated nun but the character of this spiteful cynic. In fact, the supposed "revelations" of her long struggle with doubts and depression, that is, her own "Dark Night of the Soul," were published four years ago. Here are some good responses to Hitchen's troubling article:

Chris,
Hitchens debated my undergraduate theology teacher at the Unitarian Church in Raleigh and while he had some interesting points I think you've hit the nail on the head by naming his cynicism. We need to hang out some time at school. What's your schedule like? What do you have going on on Mondays? I'm free in the mornings. We should grab some coffee soon.
