60 Minutes on an old foe

Like any other American, I was no fan of Saddam Hussein. But I always figured that simplistic pronouncements of his "madness" were farfetched. It's a common cultural phenomenon - we so readily assume liberal democracy that anyone who actually wants to be a dictator must be crazy. Especially if he brought on his own ruin with a suicidal second war against the sole superpower. But it's really hard to be crazy and do all those day-to-day tasks of being a leader. And Saddam apparently didn't expect an American invasion at all. Chalk it up to miscalculation, but nevertheless he was a calculating personality. Immoral? Yes. Evil? Probably. Irrational? Well, maybe not much more than anyone else. You can get a glimpse into his thoughts leading up to the war and after his capture by viewing the "60 Minutes" interview with the chief FBI interrogator on Yahoo! News.

Getting angry again

I have had just about enough of "One True Church" auto-eroticism! It's enough to bring a pacifist to kill somebody.
